Have had this espresso machine for several months now. Researched a lot before buying and believe this is a great machine for the money. Performs well. Makes a great shot of coffee, assuming you are using great espresso beans. Looks good on the counter, altho not a sexy as the more expensive machines. Not too noisy. Only major negative: Not a lot of clearance between the machine and the drip tray - can't use anything taller than a cappuccino cup. Also, machine does drip a bit after you stop brewing.
Consider getting a good burr grinder to go with it. I highly recommend the Capresso Infinity.
Takes a 53mm tamper size.

I just got this machine from amazon. The pump works well and fairly quiet. It produced perfect crema and the lavazza espresso tasted better. I had the
Gaggia 35008 Carezza Espresso Machine, it is noisy, no crema, except you have to insert a special device. Even so, no acceptable crema and the espresso tasted not as good as this machine.

Love this expresso machine! Water heats up quick, operation is quiet, and it makes a perfect cup of of espresso with creama every time. Like the small size, fits the counter perfectly and looks good too. About the only comment is the cup height is a little low. Have to use espresso cups instead of mugs.

4.0 out of 5 stars This Rocky delivers a knockout!, June 23, 2006
This review is from: Rancilio Rocky Doserless Grinder
I have had my Rocky doserless grinder for nearly nine months and I have never regretted the purchase. This is one of the premier prosumer grade coffee grinders and delivers consistent quality for espresso through drip and (almost) up to press pot. It is solid, relatively quiet - I use mine in my office at a small university and do close my door to muffle the noise a little more - and a great option for grinding for each individual shot of espresso. Plus, its compact form factor and mechanical-cool look mean Rocky can sit on the corner of my desk, next to the Gaggia Factory lever machine that it serves.

The highlights of the Rocky are its solidity and quality, its ease of adjustment, and in the case of this doserless model, its ability to grind for each dose of espresso or brew with minimal holdover of grounds. Because the path from burrs to chute is so short and unobstructed, I can rap the side when I am done and dislodge any leftover grounds, or simply remove the two... Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars When you're ready for a real grinder, January 16, 2008
By
William R. Pittman (Winlock, WA) - See all my reviews

This review is from: Rancilio Rocky Doserless Grinder
If you make 3-5 lattes a week on a $50 espresso machine, this grinder is not for you. But when espresso becomes more serious, and you have a machine to justify it, this is a REAL grinder.
Smooth, powerful, and quiet, the Rocky is built like a tank. At some 18 pounds, it feels like it's bolted to the counter.
The grind size is easily adjusted by depressing a single lever on the front while rotating the hopper. Depress the power switch on the front and a stream of uniform grinds pours out the chute. Release the switch and the grinder stops. The rack below the chute is easily pulled out to grind into a larger container.
After 6 months of use, I've found that the Rocky simply does not have the static problem that many others have. It also does not require frequently cleaning, and doesn't seem to mind if you want to grind enough for one shot or 100.
While not cheap, it's pure quality and an excellent value... Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars Very Pleased Customer - Worth every penny!, May 25, 2007

Even if you can't afford this, please do yourself a favor and find a way to buy this. I am so pleased with it. It is quiet and very efficient. It somehow makes the coffee beans smell better, and coffee taste better than other grinders I have tried. Very precise control of the grinds. Well built, strong and quiet. I highly recommend this grinder. Don't pay twice and buy something cheaper, you will regret it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Impressive unit for the price, June 8, 2006
Amazon Verified Purchase( What's this?)
This review is from: Lello 1375 Ariete Cafe Prestige Coffee Maker (Kitchen)
I will give this five stars. Not the same five stars I would give something along the lines of a Gaggia Carezza mind you. This five stars should be taken as a rating relative to its price. If this were the same cost of the Gaggia I would probably have to give it a 3.5

I should note I prefer americanos, cappuccinos, lattes, etc over straight espresso. I bought this for a second house. If I were to be drinking a lot of straight espresso I would have bought the Gaggia.

One important detail which is not in the description is this unit will use ESE pods. The portafilter has inserts for single and double shot amounts, as do most machines. The single shot has a small ledge around it which is designed so it may be used for both single shots and ESE pods, with a pod fitting perfectly into the area created by the little ledge. This is a big advantage for those days when you are in a rush.

Construction. This thing is solid. When I ordered it I thought it... Read more

4.0 out of 5 stars Great machine for the money, March 18, 2007
Amazon Verified Purchase( What's this?)
This review is from: Lello 1375 Ariete Cafe Prestige Coffee Maker (Kitchen)
This is an amazing espresso machine for the money. I wanted to run it through its paces for a few months before reviewing it. After almost 3 months and over 100 double shots, I am ready. I am a straight shot drinker; I never knew how smooth and intense espresso could be until I got this machine. Crema is good. I subsequently tried a few offerings from espresso bars and found them completely disappointing; I doubt I will visit another espresso shop any time soon.

If you have problems with the machine, call Lello Appliance: 201-939-2555. The one year warranty is meaningless if you don't know whom to call. Amazon could not provide this info. Lello is very responsive in my experience.

Steaming is adequate. My wife and guests like cappuccinos and lattes. I use a 20 oz Krups pitcher, and it works all right. It is shorter and wider than some of the others. I think a smaller pitcher might work better. I use a thermometer to keep from scorching the milk... Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars Functional and well built., July 17, 2006

Wow, a stainless steel unit for ~ $130. Seemed too good to be true but let me assure you that it's not. Solid and well built, it is quite functional and easy to use too. I live in Seattle, the coffee capital of the universe so I've got fairly discriminating taste in espresso and it has more than lived up to my expectations. The 15-bar pump-driven system provides good, strong pressure and brewing consistency. The drinks have frothy foam, excellent brew, and great taste. It is a bit bulky, roughly a 10" cube, but not overly large (it is actually 9.5" x 9.5" x 12" to be exact). Unlike some models, there's pretty good clearance between the nozzel and the drip tray so you can get a decent-sized cup underneath. Easy to take apart and clean too. I'm very happy with this purchase!
